Joe DiMaggio Signed 1943 Original Panoramic Army Photograph (31.5x10)
This is truly a rare piece of memorabilia relating to baseball, American history, and Italian American history. This is an original signed 1943 sepia panoramic photograph picturing Yankees legend Joe DiMaggio among his peers after enlisting in the US Army during World War II. As a member of the Special Pilot Group Squadron stationed at the Santa Ana Army Base, California photographed March 16, 1943, DiMaggio can be seen standing in the top row- sixth soldier from the left. Even more spectacular is the fact that the verso of the photograph has been signed by each soldier in black fountain pen, with DiMaggio having signed and inscribed "Pvt Joe DiMaggio - San Francisco, Calif." DiMaggio served for two and a half years in the US army and upon his discharge had obtained the rank of Staff Seargeant. This one of a kind signed photograph is a historic tribute to the service and outstanding baseball career of Joe DiMaggio who nicknamed the great "Yankee Clipper" led the Yankees during a fabulous 13 year career heralded by his record 56-consecutive-game hitting streak in 1941; one of the biggest if not the biggest baseball feat of all time.
